Los Angeles city inspectors have released a list of 13,500 buildings that may require retrofitting due to a building design that has historically been prone to collapse during severe earthquakes, including the Loma Prieta and Northridge earthquakes. Many of the buildings, known as soft-story buildings, have unsupported first floors that are typically used for parking. Soft-story buildings are featured heavily in West L.A., Hollywood, and the San Fernando Valley.

The Los Angeles Times has collected the list of buildings and built a useful tool to help renters and condo owners see if they are affected by the new law.
